Under the general supervision of the Manager – Enterprise Operations, the Network Engineer will provide core support to the firm’s networking infrastructure, to include the configuration, management, support, maintenance, reporting and oversight of firm routers, managed & unmanaged switches, firewalls, cross connects, Riverbed appliances, and other devices within our geographically dispersed WAN.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the daily networking responsibilities of the firm’s infrastructure.
Serve as primary advisor on networking related areas and providing direct, hands-on support to the firm’s networking equipment on a daily basis.
Configure, support, setup, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, WAN optimization tools, routing devices & associated servers.
Complete common network related tasks, such as configuring device IP addresses, troubleshooting through IP conflicts, assisting with DNS configuration, FQDN related tasks, and the correct & accurate configuration of other equipment.
Maintaining a constant vigilance on network optimization needs, packet analysis, traffic routing, and other network health functions
Configure, setup and optimize Riverbed appliances for WAN optimization.
Troubleshoot across various network connection types, to include Dark Fiber, MPLS, and S2S VPN tunneling.
Knowledge of Riverbed RiOS and command line interface.
Analyze infrastructure conflicts and proceed through resolution.
Examine where additional security can be implemented, enhanced or better options can be chosen.
Provide outstanding customer support as an internal resource and service area leader.
Participate as needed in monthly maintenance windows and other downtime related events.
Ability to be “on call” as needed to troubleshoot escalated issues quickly, to include potential evening hours and weekends.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Exceptional networking skills, to include supporting firm networking equipment independently and with limited collaboration with others.
Complete grasp of the OSI model, each layer, the impact of each layer on each other, and ability to support central devices which specifically support each.
Ability to configure Cisco devices using IOS and other tools (SSH, etc.).
Experience creating, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting various VLAN’s, local office LAN’s, and devices which support our data center infrastructure and broader WAN footprint.
Outstanding communication, project & priority management, and collaboration skills.
A “security-first” mindset, which constantly evaluates the security impact of every action or decision.
Ability to effectively multi-task independently is required, as well as exceptional time management & organizational skills.
Four year degree required.
A minimum of 8 years professional experience utilizing Cisco equipment, ideally within the law firm IT field or within a Managed Service Provider in support of.
Cisco certifications (CCNA, etc.) highly desired.
Security certifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.) highly desired, but not required.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components.
Ability to sit at workstation for long periods of time completing testing, documentation, or other assignments.
Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across company departments.
