The Messenger Engineer 2 position is directly responsible for the engineering and operation of the global Kirkland & Ellis messaging infrastructure and mobile device management platforms, which are available to over 4,200 attorneys and staff worldwide. Provide 24x7 day-to-day operations support of the Firm’s messaging and mobile device infrastructure. Resolve complex technical issues related to system availability, performance and end-user experience. Provide direct support to other infrastructure and application teams as it relates to messaging and mobility as well as third-level support for end-users. Manage escalation of issues to other third-level support teams and vendors. Proactively monitor systems for stability and performance issues and perform regular reporting of system metrics for capacity planning purposes.
Develop processes to manage the messaging environment and mobile device platforms to improve overall system reliability and end-user experience.
Seek, and deliver on, opportunities to drive change and innovation, evolving the infrastructure and end user experience towards best-in-class from a functionality, supportability, reliability, and availability standpoint.
Document and communicate platform standards to other IT groups.
Work in conjunction with the Architecture team and provide input into the overall strategy for messaging and mobile technologies.
Provide subject matter expertise and support assistance for projects seeking to leverage the Firm’s messaging and mobile computing environment.
Coordinate and execute production changes related to operations and project activities. Document and record implementation steps for future reference.
Contribute to monthly maintenance window activities to ensure messaging and mobility systems are running at peak performance.
Understand and remain current on messaging and mobile device technologies and trends.
Collaborate with Information Security and Security Operations to ensure email and mobile device security is maintained.
Work with new software technologies and be able to understand and learn the new technologies to become a Subject Matter Expert as needed or delegated by manager.
Participate in the team’s on-call rotation which requires 24x7 availability to respond and actively work on escalations.
Education, Work Experience, Skills
The Messaging Engineer 2 must have a BA/BS in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience. The Messaging Engineer must have 3+ years of overall technology experience supporting major implementations of Microsoft Exchange in large corporations. Additional requirements include:
Strong understanding of mobile device management platforms (AirWatch, iOS, BlackBerry, ActiveSync).
Strong understanding of messaging technologies including Exchange 2010/2016, Office 365, Email archive systems, SMTP, Proofpoint and other messaging products.
Strong understanding of unified communication technologies including Skype for Business.
Strong understanding of Active Directory and Microsoft Windows 2008/2012/2016 Server.
Strong understanding of Powershell scripting and automation techniques in a Windows environment.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and communicate best practices for a messaging environment in a large, global organization.
Capability to take a messaging architecture and implement it across the Kirkland offices and population.
