Areas of Responsibility:
IT Management: - Responsible for day-to-day management of IT systems. Overall maintenance and ongoing configuration of the firm's entire electronic inventory. - Permanent member of the firm's Technology Committee. Develop and enforce firm technology usage and security policies. Evaluate and recommend changes to current and future technology requirements to meet the firm's needs. - Develop the annual IT budget and manage spending. Competitive sourcing and vendor management of IT providers. Oversight on annual budget of $300,000. - Responsible for managing server and desktop software licenses and maintaining legal compliance. - Responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the firm's IT disaster recovery solution.
- Administration of all servers, as well as supporting services and hardware/software upgrades. - BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration, including support of all mobile devices. GroupWise and NetWare administration. - Design, maintenance and updating of all internal Intranet web resources as well as external web resources. - Training of new and existing users on IT systems. - Support to Administration team regarding any physical or logistical issues relating to utilities. Specific examples include access to secure areas (e.g. server room), breaker re-sets, basic troubleshooting of circuits, etc. - Responsible for server room fire suppression system maintenance. - Client billing oversight for office consumables (CD's, USB's, colour printing). - Responsible for lawyers' home systems, networks and internet access (business applications only). - Support for all printer configurations and printing issues, including most minor hardware repairs. - Management and tracking of all telephony systems. Implementation of moves, adds and changes for all telephony equipment. - Searching and retrieving moved and lost files and folders, salvages and restores from tape as needed.
Security Administration: - Responsible for the firm’s complete external/internal IT security and implementation of policies. - Responsible for user creation, deletion, lockouts, remote access security, and internal matter "firewalls" (conflict walls). - Risk Management and incident tracking.
Help Desk Duties: - Supervision of HelpDesk Technician. - Desktop hardware and software support. - Provide monitoring on HelpDesk outside of office hours (evening and weekends) and respond to emergency tickets.
Project Management: - Research, planning, acquisition of hardware and software, and implementation. - Development of requirements, budgets and schedules. - Identification and scheduling external IT resources as required.
Education Required: - Graduate from a recognized College or University program in Computer Engineering or Computer Science - Microsoft Certified Professional - Successful completion of relevant post-graduate certificates for the purposes of upgrading and skills maintenance. For example: IT Project Management, Technology Management and Installation, Microsoft, NetWare, etc.
Experience and Core Technical Competencies Required: - Five or more years’ experience in managing complex IT systems, installation and maintenance of servers and networking, and telephone systems. - Linux: Ability to install, manage and maintain SLES systems. - VMware: Ability to install, manage and maintain a vSphere Enterprise environment. - Knowledge of MDMs (BES12), VPNs, Cisco, Dell Server and Equallogic Storage Systems. - VOIP telephony (preferably ShoreTel) - Printers: This is a critical function in a law firm environment. Multi-tray with feeder printer management. Includes setup, driver and Office configurations. - Experience with digital legal research platforms (e.g. WestLaw, QuickLaw and ProView) considered an asset. - Experience with Lighthouse Accounting considered an asset. - Experience with CMS systems (SiteFinity) considered an asset. - Experience with Sophos desktop AntiVirus client, Security (Group Policy, Software Restriction Policy), best practices on user permissions (roles and rights) considered an asset.
Working Conditions: Physical demands of this position may require the incumbent to spend many hours sitting, walking, bending, keyboarding, working on computer monitors, photocopiers and related equipment and on occasion lifting heavy equipment or boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
