Aird & Berlis LLP is currently seeking a Network Specialist to work in a Full Time position in our Information Technology Department reporting to the Manager, Networking Services.
Provide 2nd and 3rd level network support through interaction with both the internal user community and external software vendors. The candidate of choice will need to log and track network related issues, if and when they occur, and work with vendors in finding/testing solutions.
Install, configure and upkeep of networking, server and storage infrastructures as well as maintain documentation on various aspects of the network.
Implement and maintain all security related matters (both hardware and software infrastructure, along with the necessary policies and guidelines).
Responsible for maintaining all server related backups. OS snapshots as well as data backups and documenting accordingly.
Responsible for keeping track of firmware, patches and upgrades when they become available for the various server hardware, operating systems and server applications. This would be followed up with appropriate testing and roll out.
In addition to these day-to-day responsibilities, this individual will work as a member of the Network Services Team and provide backup support for others on the team in the event of absenteeism. This will require the individual to come up to speed quickly on systems that are not part of their day-to-day responsibility.
Working hours will be from 10:00am till 6:00pm, during regular business days with the requirement to work outside of these for monthly shutdowns, projects or when workload requires.
This position requires the individual to carry a communication device and be involved in after-hours support.
Qualifications or Skills Required:
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an IT network support role.
Thorough understanding of LAN concepts, operations and network security policies and practices.
Must have advanced and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows server 2008/2012/2016 including Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange 2013/2016, VMware ESX 6.x/5.x., various SAN technology.
An in-depth understanding of Network Firewalls, Internet and packet analysis. Experience working within a Palo Alto environment a plus.
Must have the ability to demonstrate strong initiative in problem solving scenarios.
Candidates must be resourceful and have superior organizational, time-management and oral and written communication skills.
Must have appropriate respect of the procedures of working within a production environment (clear understanding of "test" vs. "production" environment).
Experience with backup hardware, cloud integration and Software. Veeam backup and replication software preferably along with backup exec and HP Tape Devices.
Experience with login scripts, xml, vbscript and other scripting languages.
Familiarity with HP Proliant DL Servers, HP Procurve switches an asset.
Prior experience with MS SQL 2012/2016 environment (installing, implementing, writing and executing SQL scripts) is a plus.
Prior experience with Avaya phone system administration is an asset.
Any experience with IManage Worksite, Blackberry Enterprise Server and activating Smartphone devices and Symantec Anti-Virus, would also be a plus.
Successful completion of a post-secondary IT program involving network support and troubleshooting is required (or equivalent work experience).
