The Desktop Engineer will focus on patch management, desktop security and configuration, and anti-virus/malware administration. This position will deploy core Windows patches as well as application updates. She/he will work closely with the Desktop Engineering team, the Director of Information Security and other IT groups to remedy security concerns and ensure “best-practice” procedures and technologies are introduced into the environment. This position will report into the Director of Enterprise Support & Engineering.
Assist with deployment of monthly Microsoft security patches and necessary application security updates to the environment.
Assist with management of the desktop environment anti-virus/malware platform and definition updates.
Assist with deployment of BIOS/UEFI/OEM firmware updates for computers, printers and other peripherals.
Remedy security vulnerabilities from weekly/monthly security reports.
Build, deploy and maintain the enterprise desktop “image” (task sequence deployment), including application compatibility and integration, standardization of features and branding.
Develop the process and procedures for imaging systems, scripting configuration and final end user personalization.
Develop the data migration techniques and tools used to preserve operating system and application settings as well as user based preferences.
Build and test automated software distribution packages and scripts; administration of the deployment console and infrastructure.
Manage hardware/software collection inventories and create groups for software targeting. Build audit reports as needed to capture hardware configuration and software installations.
Work with vendors/OEMs and other 3rd parties to facilitate problem resolutions and manage project participation.
Assume additional responsibilities as requested.
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years of relevant working experience, preferably in a professional services environment.
Must have exceptional hardware and software problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Demonstrated proficiency with the following technologies: Windows 10 in a Windows 2012/2016 network, Office 2016, System Center Configuration Manager, SCCM Operating System Deployment, SCCM Software Updates, Windows Defender, Flexera AdminStudio (packaging tools), Citrix, Group Policy, Active Directory, Scripting tools, Encryption/Dell Data Security, Windows Firewall.
