Osler is currently recruiting for a Technology Learning Specialist to join our Learning Services team. The successful candidate will design and deliver procedural and computer software training as well as orientation sessions to Firm personnel, ensures that all Firm members possess relevant skills, resources and information needed to operate efficiently and effectively and to provide seamless client service to internal and external clients. Additionally, the incumbent acts as team leader for Firm projects & provides second-level support to the Help Desk, as required.
Conducts needs analysis to determine what relevant information to include in learning programs, designs courseware and customizes materials and training sessions. Maintains awareness of changes to Firm processes and procedures, assesses impact of change, and identifies and incorporates related training requirements
Maintains and updates all relevant learning materials and resources
Delivers training for all new staff
Provides support to Firm members to solve complex problems that require more in-depth knowledge of certain applications (Word, Excel, Filemaker, etc.) and promotes best practices in work processes
Represents Training & Development as an active member of Firm Project teams. Acts as Training team leader in rollouts and other projects., as required
Evaluates effectiveness of learning by facilitating meetings for recent hires (after three months of employment), re-assesses training needs, arranges for additional training, and adjusts or updates training programs as required.
Performs Operational Reviews by observing, auditing and evaluating the performance of Firm members and creating a Plan of Action to increase competency levels or address performance issues.
Education and Experience
The position requires a community college diploma or university degree coupled with completion of adult training courses plus formal training in the design and delivery of adult training programs or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Law firm experience an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
Flexible attitude in order to alter training schedule as required to accommodate varying levels of learning
Knowledge of adult education principles and training techniques in order to effectively train staff
Enthusiasm and motivation in order to maintain high levels of interest in training initiatives
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Ability to take initiative in identifying client needs and recommending training solutions
Observational skills to ensure training is effective and trainees are grasping concepts being taught
Thorough knowledge of computer application software and basic office equipment (i.e. projector, scanner)
Knowledge of law firm practices, procedures and environment
Maintains a current knowledge of technological enhancements, system upgrades and training methods
Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the Firm’s procedures and processes in order to effectively train new and existing staff
