Wiley Rein LLP, a leading Washington, DC law firm, is seeking a Director of Practice Technology to join its growing Information Services Department. As an integral member of the leadership team, this role will develop, implement, and manage innovative technology solutions and processes that enhance practice group workflows and the delivery of legal services to the Firm’s clients.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for process improvement that drives forward-thinking resourcefulness and the ability to expertly combine in-depth knowledge of the legal process with current technology.
Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Practice Technology will work with key internal stakeholders and practice group leaders to identify opportunities to leverage existing and emerging technology solutions that support practice area goals. Core responsibilities include:
• Responsible for implementing solutions to provide the Firm’s practice areas with the efficient and innovative use of technology to support their work and clients’ needs • Works with practices to leverage existing and new technologies that further develop and enhance practice procedures, processes, and workflow • Direct the development of practical strategies to meet requirements for compliance and governance, workflow improvements, knowledge management, and content management • Responsible for the identification, development, and execution of initiatives to support the delivery of client services through the effective use and management of information mining, retrieval, creation, consumption, and re-use • Direct the technological development and management of business intelligence, reporting, practice management, and analytical solutions • Assist with the strategic planning process for the technological needs of practice groups and work with firm and client stakeholders to determine priorities and resource allocation requirements • Review methodologies, processes, and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency • Serves as the primary point of contact for practice group technology projects and requirements
The successful candidate should possess eight (8) plus years of relevant experience in a law firm managing a firm-wide technology function and expert knowledge of the legal process and client service delivery. Candidate should also possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. A JD is highly preferred.
In addition, the ideal candidate will display excellent interpersonal communication skills, a strong customer service orientation, and the ability to work effectively across teams to deliver superior solutions.
Candidates will also possess the following capabilities and characteristics: • Proven IT project delivery excellence, both with internal partners and external clients, as well as demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others • Knowledge and experience in cross-functional project management methods and techniques • Knowledge of information technology applications, methods, processes, analytics, reporting, and software development life cycle • Knowledge of legal service delivery, practice and matter management, and law firm administration • Knowledge of technical planning and service delivery • Knowledge of data and information management • Knowledge of business intelligence, visualization, analytics and supporting systems • Skill in effectively serving a diverse customer base • Strong leadership skills and ability to organize, prioritize, delegate and complete IT department projects under short-time constraints, within budget
• The ability to prioritize/coordinate deadlines and track the progress of tasks • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy • Must maintain the confidentiality of work-related information and materials • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels, across the firm
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear • This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus • The employee may lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds • Position operates in a professional office environment which is usually quiet to moderate
• The Firm requires the duties and responsibilities of this position to be performed onsite during scheduled work hours
