The UC Davis Mabie Law Library seeks a forward-thinking, motivated, service-oriented
professional librarian to join our team as a Senior Research Law Librarian.
The Law Library is an integral part of the UC Davis School of Law, and provides services that
support the teaching, research, and scholarship of its students and faculty. The Library’s
collection and staff are housed in King Hall on the Davis campus. The Library houses over
375,000 volumes in print and provides access to more than 10,000 databases which are provided
through its library licenses, campus, and UC-wide license agreements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position provides expert research services to library students and faculty using various print
and digital resources. With superior knowledge of legal research tools, both print and online, the
librarian works closely with faculty providing in-depth analysis and ongoing support for complex
research projects. Additionally, the position provides research support for faculty in areas of
interdisciplinary, empirical, and business trends.
Areas of research concentration include, but are not limited to, regulatory, administrative, federal
legislative history, tax, environmental and federal procedure. The position assists with
development of legal research outreach materials, such as LibGuides, and other instructional
The position assists with in-classroom presentations in Advanced Legal Research, 1L LRW,
various doctrinal courses, as well as research training for students working in clinics, on journals,
as externs or RA’s etc. The position works with the other reference librarians to coordinate and
collaborate on developing and implementing new and established library services. The position
reports to the Director and represents the library on various work groups and committees within
the law school, campus, and professional organizations.
The work schedule includes some weekend and evening hours.
J.D. and library degree from an ALA-accredited school or equivalent
5 or more years of increasingly responsible legal research work,
Demonstrated deep and broad knowledge of legal research sources in both print and
Demonstrated understanding of trends in legal research methodologies and legal
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented
User-focused and demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service
Relevant library technology skills involving discovery and access
Strong written and oral communication skills
Work experience preferably as an academic law librarian, working with law faculty and
Experience supporting faculty or others actively engaged in conducting legal research.
Experience working with California legal research resources.
Familiarity with interdisciplinary research tools.
Additional Salary Information: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. UC professional
librarians are academic appointees. This position is in a collective bargaining unit.
