Our client, Shearman & Sterling LLP, is seeking a Business Information Architect who will be part of a team that helps improve overall profit margins and increase client value through delivery of information, tools, project management, process improvement and other methods. The goal is to increase value to users by providing simple access to information, experience, and data, enabling them to work more efficiently, and ensuring quality and consistency of work product. The Business Information Architect uses their background and expertise to advance these goals.
The Business Information Architect understands content management and how implementation of taxonomy and metadata concepts can support information retrieval working on business data catalog, data glossary, define business data domains, use of the Data Governance Tool, business data analysis, business data mapping, work with Data Owners and Data Stewards, and perform other relate business data management activities.
This role will contribute to the development and diffusion of an overarching business information architecture that incorporates business-wide principles for information, policies and standards that help the business realize specific proposition outcomes, and a practice that coordinates the application of those policies and standards in new capability build and transition of existing capability.
The Business Information Architect will perform hands on work on project teams to enhance and map data throughout the client’s systems. There are plans to passively collect data both internally and externally for knowledge systems and enterprise search. There is a program for the next three years to review all data, where it should be stored and which is the system of record for data stored in more than one system. The role of Business Information Architect will have a critical contribution to this program.
Participate in review and mapping of all data points with the goal of eliminating duplicate/doubtful data and ingesting more robust data.
Aid in functional design of all business systems as relates to data capture
Work with IT data team to provide passive data collection requirements.
Create documentation of design work with Excel, Visio and other tools for team and management review.
Inform Knowledge & Research Systems Manager of all planned and active design, along with strategies and value propositions.
Meet and collaborate with project teams to support projects in the data program.
Continuously seek opportunities to optimize, streamline and improve business data flows, and maintain reasonable user experience for users working with data.
Support other Client Value team projects and initiatives where business data flow design is needed, as required
Provide expertise on Data Management capabilities and be an advocate for business information architecture across the organization.
Analyze and participate in modeling data concepts across the enterprise, expressed as information reference frameworks, data models and life cycle models
Leadership of data work streams with all business services departments
Clear and concise communication with leadership
Working with the change management team to create and deliver messaging regarding data management and information governance
Other duties as assigned
Five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services organization.
Bachelor’s Degree relevant to the role required
Able to define and articulate business needs and value proposition.
Self-driven and able to work independently while at the same time being open and collaborative.
Ability to plan, convene, chair and facilitate working groups so as to stay focused and reach clear, recorded decisions is essential.
Able to think both conceptually and pragmatically, and able to balance the need to think with the ability to deliver.
Strong analytical, architectural skills and conceptual abilities; ability to manage complexity.
Ability to accurately analyze, abstract, visualize and communicate complex interdependent concepts, especially in regard to information structure and management.
Collaborative and team-oriented with a strong sense of collective responsibility.

Experience/knowledge of working with Master Data Management (MDM), Data Quality and Metadata
Experience/knowledge of designing and optimizing information architectures
Experience with the design and implementation of knowledge & research systems, search and taxonomies.
Experience with information security, information classification and information masking
