The Senior IT Training Specialist organizes, designs and conducts training for staff and lawyers within the firm. This role also participates in project teams to assess training and support needs for new or updated firm applications. The Senior IT Training Specialist is responsible for developing a training strategy and approach that is consistent with the standards of the firm and aligns with the defined learning objectives.
The role is a blend of traditional technical training responsibilities (classroom instruction, instructional design and e-learning content creation) along with project management responsibilities. The Senior IT Training Specialist must be able to create classroom material, conduct local or multi-point instructor-led classes, host live GoToMeeting sessions and design and produce e-learning modules.
Since project work and traditional training responsibilities are heavily intertwined, the Senior IT Training Specialist must leverage strong project management skills to effectively estimate time, set proper expectations for deliverables, prioritize tasks and manage commitments while working in an environment of constant distractions and shifting responsibilities. The individual in this role must be a self-starter who is curious and eager to take on new challenges; be able to assume leadership on projects; be capable of working independently while also effectively collaborating with team members; and demonstrate the ability to be flexible in light of changing project requirements and priorities. The individual must be self-motivated with high standards for quality; must be goal-oriented and have the ability to remain calm in an environment of ever-changing technology, deadlines and priorities.
The Senior IT Training Specialist should be an experienced trainer with extensive classroom experience as well as one-on-one coaching expertise. This individual must have excellent writing and presentation skills; have high energy, a positive attitude and a sincere commitment to provide excellent service to all internal and external clients. This person must work seamlessly and professionally with all areas of the firm — providing consistently superior instruction to senior level personnel, partners and directors as well as all business support personnel. This specialist must also work collaboratively with members of the team to find and execute successful solutions for day-to-day challenges.
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Technology Training & Document Production, User Support & Training and takes direction from the Senior Director of Support Services.
Designs, develops and delivers training for new technologies initiatives. Actively participates in project teams from kick-off through post-project support.
Develop relevant classroom materials including learning objectives, training documentation, visual aids, test plans, course handouts, e-learning and quizzes.
Manage and motivate participants in a classroom or virtual setting. Conducts live and virtual training sessions to both U.S. and International users.
Effectively and efficiently manage all aspects of classroom set-up and administration associated with the Senior IT Training Specialist role — e.g., registration, confirmations, material prep, room scheduling, video conferencing and post-class follow-up.
Design and develop e-learning learning modules to support instructor-led programs or other initiatives within the firm.
Continuously improve the quality of existing curriculum through active process improvement efforts such as collaboration with end users, formal needs assessments, analysis of User Support trend data or project lessons learned.
Develop in-depth knowledge of the firm’s core applications and provide Subject Matter Expertise knowledge for the team on assigned projects.
Proactively market the IT Training services in the home office as well as during site visits to other Ropes & Gray offices.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
Work Hours: Workday schedule may vary according to business needs and requires travel to other Ropes & Gray office locations. Incumbent is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. This includes hosting virtual training sessions in the evenings to support night staff, West Coast and International office needs. (8pm-10pm).

Willingness to travel US and International office locations.Travel during normal conditions is estimated at a trip per month for a couple days up to a week (West Coast).Project demands may require more frequent and longer duration travel.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree and a minimum 5 years of training related experience in a legal environment.
Microsoft certification in the Office Suite or extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Office 2016 suite.
Knowledge of various legal-specific technologies (e.g., document management systems, document comparisons and document automation tools).
Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to shift focus on different tasks throughout the day.
