About the role
Each practice area delivers a portfolio of client engagements, the Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for working across a number of clients to ensure that their requirements are interpreted into consistent behavioral, technical and process solutions within the scope of the engagement. The BA will be involved throughout the project lifecycle and will be key in building relationships with the client and being a subject matter expert, providing insight and advice to the client as they deliver the scope of the project.
The role has significant focus on the delivery of best practice in terms of documenting requirements and carrying out analysis, and requires a flair for creating innovative and useful ways of managing the relationships and dependencies between features.
Discovery phase - The role will be expected to work closely with the client’s business users and Fireman & Company practice experts during the discovery phase to extract requirements and turn them into deliverable solutions.
Design and build phases - The BA will be responsible for prioritisation, mapping, analysis and documentation of the gap between current and future state considering the impact on both technology and behavioral change for users.
QA and go live phases - The BA will be responsible for carrying out and/or managing the testing of design and configurations delivered against the requirements as well as working closing with the change management workstream to ensure go live training and communications relate to the requirements of the client.
Working with Fireman & Company leadership teams, the BA will play a part in developing, improving and promoting adoption of good requirements analysis within the firm including building reusable templates and sharing experiences with colleagues.
The Business Analyst is expected to work on their own initiative, under the direction of senior leadership and practice heads. The BA is measured on their ability to demonstrate experience in the following areas.
Planning and scheduling interviews with client (lawyers/attorneys and other firm expertise) to identify current pain points, system requirements and opportunities for future innovation
Creating mock ups of screen design and system configuration, to help users visualize the user experience, leveraging wireframing tools such as Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma
Facilitating and/or leading focus groups, workshops, interviews (face to face and remotely), building online surveys and other business engagement activities
Documentation and delivery of client facing summary reports of interview insights and recommendations
Creation, review and maintenance of requirements matrix, using tools such as Excel, Jira, MSF
Working with the sales teams to define scope and estimate effort for potential clients/new projects
Anaylsis and reporting
Carry out analysis into current systems and processes at the client, and recommend solutions which will improve the way of working for lawyers and other business users at the client
Development of personas and other user attributes to understand how workflows will be adopted by different user groups
Carry out review, write report to recommend 3rd party tools to support delivery of requirements
Design and documentation of current and future state processes. Identification of gaps, documentation of solutions to support transition to the new processes
Quality assurance and project management
To lead/or manage 3rd party vendors during all QA activities, including proof of concepts (PoCs), piloting new processes, wireframe and user journey validation and acceptance criteria.
To lead/or manage 3rd party vendors during development of training assets, including How to guides, Helpdesk knowledge transfer and administrator training.
Creation and delivery to the client of the data book, detailing the design and configuration of the system
Definition of acceptance criteria at requirement, feature and platform level.
Carrying out project management tasks such as: status reporting, budget management, risk management and internal reporting
Provide direction, motivation, training, and decision support to other Business Analysts and consultants (internal and client where appropriate)
Recognise and manage staff diversity, performance and or personality conflicts to work as part of an effective team(s)
Develop a position of trust and expertise by delivering and sharing knowledge
Leverage new thinking and tools to enhance project quality
Propose or refine project standards, policies, procedures, and methodologies, focusing on streamlining administrative overhead and adding value to our clients
The Business Analyst will be able to demonstrate the following attributes

Ability to interpret business needs and desired outcomes into a set of functional requirements that will help deliver client goals
Ability to streamline and standardize business needs to ensure consistency in the user experience
Ability to interpret reporting, analytics and research to incorporate into recommendation
The Business Analyst will be able to demonstrate real world experience in the following areas:
Over 5 years of BA and/or consulting experience, creating innovative solutions to business challenges and opportunities
Delivering through the full life cycle of a project (pre-sales, initiation, discovery, design, build, launch, adoption)
Understanding and knowledge of applications and IT infrastructure components – e.g. software, mobility, networks, platforms, and operating systems
Over 5 years of experience working within the legal sector
Delivering digital solutions using Intranet (such as SharePoint), Enterprise Search and other content management platforms
Working on multiple projects concurrently within client facing professional services roles
Managing client relationships and presenting to client teams (including at CIO level or equivalent)
Working as part of a matrixed, remote team
Understanding of professional services consulting methodologies and how to implement them
Extensive experience of working with project management tools (eg MS Project, Asana, JIRA, Smartsheet, Basecamp)
One of the following professional certifications
IIBA Level 3 - Certified Business Analysis Professional
APMG - Practitioner level
Prosci - Change Management certification
Lean Six Sigma - Green belt
Understanding of Knowledge Management within the legal/law firm environment
Experience of implementing legal systems (eg Handshake, Recommind, iManage, NetDocuments, Intapp, BA Insight)
Experience of delivering change management and adoption projects
Previous experience of Waterfall, Agile, SaFE, SCRUM methodologies for software implementation
Previous experience in Project Management, Quality Assurance, Solution Architect or Training
Telecommuting is allowed.
