Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Financial Systems and Analysis will work closely with the CFO/COO to provide reporting, systems support and development, budgeting and analysis necessary to optimize firm financial results. The Director will work closely with the Director of Pricing and Practice Group Support to ensure Practice Group leaders have the necessary information to make informed decisions regarding department pricing, staffing and other investments. The Director will also work with other administrative leaders to design and implement financial systems and application changes. Additionally, the Director and their team will work with all administrative leader to establish cost center budgets and monitor against those budgets.
Manage and direct team of analysts responsible for providing financial and operational reporting, analysis and counsel, including monthly analytic reports at the practice group, office and total firm level. Mentor and develop the team, creating an engaged and motivated work force.
Establish, maintain and disseminate a comprehensive knowledge of the various databases and sources of financial data necessary to produce financial, productivity and ad-hoc reports.
Manage production of necessary data and analytics associated with annual compensation setting for partners, associates and other employees.
Coordinate firm wide budgeting process ensuring department staff has the training and skills necessary to support the directors and others responsible for developing and heeding established budgets.
Lead efforts to identify budget variances and to ensure appropriate measures are initiated to address issues. Prepare and present budget performance analysis in a compelling and logical format.
Maintain and update firm financial forecasts, including various scenarios as applicable.
Gather peer comparatives through networking and survey participation; identify areas where the firm excels or opportunities for improvement.
Perform modeling for potential lateral partner and lateral group acquisitions;
Work closely with the Director of Pricing to set annual standard and market rates commensurate with compensation and demand.
Maintain working knowledge of system associations and data flow.
Create or update functional specifications for new or modified reports and applications
Work collaboratively with the internal project management team and external consultants to assist in the identification and implementation of new financial systems and applications.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Hold an undergraduate degree in systems, finance or accounting. An MBA, CPA or equivalent work experience preferred.
Possess a strong track record of managing, motivating and developing professional staff to maximize productivity, impact and engagement.
Possess 10+ years of law firm financial management/analysis experience; financial management of systems applications a plus. 7+ years of successful and measurable management/leadership experience.
Have the ability to strategically apply a “big picture” approach when generating reports and analysis, ensuring they are focused on the critical importance, relevance and impact the information may have for the requestor, the operation and the firm.
Possess experience and technical skills in working with large data sets, and mastery of the tools used to mine and manipulate information for analysis and presentation
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, confident presence, and interpersonal skills that enable effective engagement and collaboration with the firm’s most senior partners, as well as with other critical personnel
Have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and complete tasks with tight timetables
