This position consists of legal pricing and budgeting, legal project matter management, and profitability initiatives. The analyst/manager can be located in Dallas, TX, Kansas City, MO, or Minneapolis, MN. The person in this position will assist attorneys with the management of matters throughout the lifecycle of a client engagement including pricing proposals, task planning, matter budgeting, matter metrics, legal task execution management, tracking and status reporting. The manager will also assist with the development of training on legal project management principles and identify process improvements to improve firm profitability and client satisfaction with firm services.
Develop scenarios and models to assess financial impact and profitability of pricing proposals and assist in the development of creative, workable pricing solutions in response to client demands
Develop pricing proposals
Assist with the design, implementation, and tracking of complex pricing arrangements in support of the firm’s alternative fee programs
Assist in developing pricing databases and pre-populated budget templates to improve the firm’s ability to develop accurate budgets
Monitor budget performance, report matter and practice metrics, communicate with matter teams and clients
Apply sound project management and legal project management principles and processes to the planning, budgeting, and execution of client matters
Collaborate with attorneys and professional staff to identify resources and staffing that best align with budget proposals
Provide organizational and analytical support to legal teams for various types of matters throughout the engagement
Train, coach and mentor the attorney team in legal project management tools, methods, and best practices
Assist in the development of project management curricula appropriate for both staff and attorneys
5 plus years of experience managing large projects with complex variables and budgets within a highly matrixed organization
Knowledge of law firm processes and attorney-client relationships preferred
Knowledge regarding all project management phases and documentation including project plans, scope, budget estimates, and risk assessments
Knowledge of law firm pricing models and alternative pricing models in the legal industry, with the ability to create alternative pricing models with attorneys and Finance Department.
Ability to understand and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s); using a variety of financial systems and reporting tools
Ability to define a project and establish relative priorities among competing and demanding deliverables
Ability to form strong and trusted relationships with attorneys and staff and to be recognized as a credible resource
Strong oral and written communication skills with business professionals, attorneys, and staff
Skilled at creative conflict resolution
Knowledge of, and skills in, business analytics and the applications used for business analytics in law firms
Skilled at organizing resources and establishing priorities
Ability to be flexible and shift from different projects as demands require
Strategic thinker, with the ability to craft novel solutions that are responsive to client and attorney needs
Superior client service orientation
Ability to be flexible and work independently with limited or no supervision
Strong technology skills
Experience with legal or other financial or professional services industries a plus. Bachelor's degree required; MBA or JD a plus
