The Director of Information Technology’s primary responsibility is to oversee the streamlined operation of the IT department and to ensure it aligns with the business objectives of the organization. This individual’s principal goals are to develop and manage application portfolios for each department and to attain all IT service level agreements for the user community within the organization.
The Director of Information Technology will plan, coordinate, direct, and design all operational activities of the IT department, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. The Director of IT will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides a strategic plan for the implementation of IT infrastructure, security, user services and support with an end goal of services the firm’s clients and users.
Manages the IT department’s operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning; organizes and negotiates the allocation of resources.
Develops and reviews the budgets for Information Technology and ensures they comply with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives.
Manages IT team, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and recommendation for disciplinary actions.
Benchmarks, analyzes, reports on, and makes recommendations for the improvement of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.
Develops and implements all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provisions.
Oversees negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
Establishes and maintains regular written and verbal communications with the Technology committee, other administrative functional managers, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
Aids with the design implementation, testing, and maintenance of the Firm’s IT Disaster Recovery Plan.
Effectively applies troubleshooting and problem solving skills to various hardware, software and network problems in a timely manner.
Communicates effectively (able to clearly express ideas/opinions, uses appropriate and effective communication methods, interacts with staff and clients openly and honestly, and is receptive and attentive to communication/feedback from staff and clients).
Demonstrates organizational skills and effective use of time (ability to plan daily work, set priorities and manage time, ensuring work is completed timely and efficiently)
Exhibits dependability (is present and prepared for work as scheduled, appropriately uses time off policies, schedules lunch and breaks according to department needs).
Remains involved in the day-to-day management and support of the network and desktop infrastructure.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, information systems or applicable business degree and seven years related work experience. Master’s degree in a technology discipline or Master of Business Administration, with technology as a core component, is preferred.
Seven years of experience managing and/or directing an IT department.
