Ballard Spahr LLP, a national law firm with 15 offices across the United States is seeking an Applications Technician to be responsible for the implementation and daily administration, maintenance, support and documentation of desktop applications and systems relating to computing and technology firm wide.
Our Applications Technician will:
- Review software applications for opportunities to deliver the most effective software to enable those in the organization to perform their jobs more efficiently
- Work with the Applications Support Team with regard to new application installs, upgrades and refresh projects; monitors vendor sites quarterly to determine timing and pertinence of application upgrades/updates
- Troubleshoot issues across the firm’s application suite and documents the resolutions
- Assist with desktop application testing, configuration recommendations and quality assurance
- Assist with shaping the Information Services knowledge base by creating content, ensuring quality, and fostering knowledge-sharing among all support groups
In conjunction with the IS Core Management Team, develop and enforce best practices and policies, and assist with after-hours emergency and on-call support on a rotation schedule.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a broad range of people. Adept at developing, nurturing and encouraging staff to embrace change and improve the organization. Exercise sound judgment, patience and discretion. Solid communication skills to effectively communicate with end-users, executives and other technical team members. Superior organizational skills, problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Management Information Systems and 3+ years of relevant experience. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, 5 years of relevant experience in the IT field is required. Substantial experience with ServiceNow or a similar ITSM platform, Microsoft Suite of Technologies, legal applications, in-depth knowledge of iManage FileSite or equivalent document management system and thorough knowledge of technical support operations and processes with an ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly with minimal support and guidance. Prior experience working in the legal or professional services environment a plus.
