As Associate Director, Corporate Counsel you will engage collaboratively to enable Boehringer Ingelheim’s US Animal Health Business by providing strategic advice and legal counsel on marketing and advertising law and regulations, including legal review and approval of all marketing and promotional materials and programs, and drafting and negotiating transactional agreements. The role will also assist with additional projects and transactions as needed.

This role is located out of our Duluth, GA office in the Atlanta area with hybrid / onsite flexibility. You will support our highly successful Animal Health Business.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with internal brand teams and other business partners to enable communications, marketing and promotional activities in compliance with applicable laws and regulations; provide day to day advice on marketing, advertising, promotions and claims issues; and coordinate and complete the associated internal legal approval processes.
Counsel on day-to-day activities such as sweepstakes, contests, rebates, coupons, gift cards, email marketing, text message marketing, charitable marketing, advertising copy review, claim substantiation, and privacy compliance.
Assist with investigations and resolutions of compliance issues, including responding to challenges from competitors, governmental agencies, or other self-regulatory authorities regarding product claims, comparative advertising, and other advertising practices.
Identify, build and execute a variety of strategies and tactics to help drive Boehringer Ingelheim’s US Animal Health sales and marketing priorities; assist species/brand attorney(s) with tactical legal advice associated with complex business strategies.
Develop and deliver training materials and other communications to increase stakeholder understanding of company policies, practices, procedures and legal obligations; conduct ongoing training and awareness activities.
Draft, negotiate and review full range of day-to-day legal documents including letters, notices, legal opinions, court/administrative filings, joint marketing agreements, sponsorship agreements, etc.; take the lead in negotiating to achieve solutions consistent with business objectives.
Influence by identifying and communicating risks associated with complex business activities within lawyer's specialized legal area; provide training and business advice on applicable legal issues within lawyer’s expertise.
Partner with stakeholders by looking beyond immediate business issues and identifying broader business purposes; proactively apply legal framework to both the specific business activity and the broader business purposes; develop alternative legal solutions to enable the achievement of successful outcomes.
Keep current with evolving legal and business issues within lawyer’s expertise and company’s business environment; monitor and track new Federal Register Notices as well as key issues arising out of relevant federal and state agencies, addition to self-regulatory agencies including the FDA, USDA, FTC, NAD, etc.

Requirements:
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
At least two (2) years of relevant legal experience
Admission to at least one State bar
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Demonstrates discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of information
Understanding of federal and state laws, regulations and policies in specialized legal area
Ability to interpret and apply such laws, regulations and policies to inform business activities

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience.
Minimum of two (2) years in the areas of Advertising or Marketing.
Expert understanding of state and federal laws, regulations and policies in advertising and promotion; strong working knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in contract law; ability to interpret and apply such laws, regulations and policies to inform business activities.
Experience representing advertisers and challengers before the national advertising industry's self-regulatory dispute resolution forum including the NAD; Experience representing companies during advertising investigations by the FTC.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
