The Lexington County Sheriff's Department is seeking a skilled and dedicated Domestic Violence Prosecutor to join our legal team. This position is primarily responsible for prosecuting violent assault cases in summary court with a particular emphasis on domestic violence, including complex and high-profile matters. The ideal candidate will bring relevant litigation experience, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to victim advocacy and the pursuit of justice. This role involves all phases of prosecution, from case review and legal research to trial preparation and courtroom litigation.
What You’ll Do:
Prosecute criminal cases.
Represent the State of South Carolina in trials, pleas, and other court proceedings.
Develop case strategies, conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and present evidence in court.
Interview victims, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel.
Evaluate cases and determine appropriate resolutions, including plea deals, diversion, or dismissal.
Supervise assigned personnel, providing direction, evaluation, and support.
Coordinate forensic testing and additional investigations as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
Juris Doctorate with 5–7 years of relevant legal experience.
Member in good standing with the South Carolina State Bar Association.
Strong courtroom presence and trial advocacy skills.
Knowledge of South Carolina criminal law, courtroom procedures, rules of evidence, and legal research methods.
Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload with professionalism and attention to detail.
