The Database and Application Administrator will handle projects and daily tasks and duties, including administration of the SQL environment and the iManage document management system; database technology consultation; ensuring database integrity, security, backup and satisfactory performance; management of all database hardware resources; management of systems to ensure database integrity, stability and security; evaluation of database management systems and tool sets; development of database standards and procedures. Also serves as the SME for other applications as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Management of the database environment, iManage environment and related applications.
Provide strategic direction for the database environment, the iManage environment, and other applications.
Provide project management and project leadership for projects related to the Database Administrator supported applications.
Function as the lead for applications as assigned.
Implement, maintain, and manage physical database systems/servers.
Work on database migration and replication projects using SQL scripts and tools as well as third party tools.
Participate in projects related to the use and creation of databases.
Provide DBA support to vendors and other project participants.
Perform tuning of relational database management systems and related application databases.
Design, implement and/or support database backup, recovery, and replication systems.
Perform capacity planning for database management systems.
Assist with the evaluation and selection of new database management hardware, software, and tool sets.
Administer, monitor, and maintain the iManage libraries, indexers, and document servers.
Perform periodic maintenance on iManage libraries, such as deletions, document recovery, addition of library items, and document archival.
Assist in the creation and management of Ethical Walls and other database security management.
Monitor and stay current with industry trends and advancements in database management systems, application development systems and related tool sets.
Use software tools to create and alter databases.
Work with internal IT staff to support the loading/importing of databases provided by external sources and the exporting of internal databases to external sites.
Provide support for the conversion of data between different physical formats and structures.
Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring standards, procedures, and guidelines for database related technology.
Perform other departmental duties as required by supervisor in support of the IT department.
SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Ability to establish effective working relationships throughout the Firm and with outside contacts.
Ability to think strategically and effectively communicate strategy.
Project planning and task management.
Thorough knowledge of database and network technology as well as IT standards, procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
Strong command of the English language and legal terminology, and able to effectively communicate with them.
Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workload.
Ability to effectively manage telephone contacts with all forms of Firm personnel and outside individuals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology preferred
Previous experience of 5 or more years of related experience.
