JOB FUNCTIONS
The CMO must be a strategic thinker, excellent communicator, and a professional, responsible manager. The CMO will be responsible for ensuring that the firm’s marketing strategy and business development efforts are aligned with the firm’s strategies. The CMO is expected to manage a team of professionals committed to a collaborative atmosphere and continuous improvement while maintaining the firm’s unique culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop the strategic vision, process and plan for the marketing and business development function for the firm.
- Responsible for hiring professionals to support the marketing and business development function for the firm.
- Expected to manage a team of professionals committed to a team approach and continuous improvement.
- Oversee brand management; strategic and tactical planning; competitive intelligence; client teams and sector initiatives; RFP responses and other pitches and proposals; internal and external communications including press releases, media relations; events; website and other digital marketing.
- Manage relations with external providers of services such as website, media relations, business development coaching, client feedback programs and marketing-related technologies (e.g., CMS, proposal management, experience management).
- Manage the implementation of marketing-related technologies, especially the integration of systems.
- Manage the design, development, and production of effective collateral material, including the design of proposals, firm brochure, practice/office/industry brochures, client alerts, newsletters, and announcements.
- Manage external and internal communications, including promotion of firm and attorney awards, rankings and accomplishments.
- Establish metrics with which to track the department’s performance and routinely report those to management.
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, business administration, journalism, marketing or a related field. Prior experience in marketing or business development in a law firm is strongly preferred, as is experience with an intellectual property law practice. A graduate degree is also strongly preferred.
