GENERAL SUMMARY: The Manager of Information Technologies oversees the IT department and ensures comprehensive technical support for the firm’s operations. This role is responsible for analyzing the firm’s technology needs, making strategic recommendations to the Executive Committee, and implementing all automation-related functions—including, but not limited to, network infrastructure, databases, and the telephone system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning:
Develop and implement IT strategies to support organizational goals and drive innovation.
Assess current and future technology needs, creating long-term plans for infrastructure, software, and cybersecurity.
Collaborate with senior leadership to align IT investments with business priorities.
Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend improvements.
MSP/Vendor Relationship Management:
Oversee and manage relationships with external MSP and other vendors to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Negotiate contracts, service level agreements (SLAs), and performance metrics with MSP and vendors.
Monitor MSP performance, ensuring compliance with SLAs and addressing any issues promptly.
Coordinate with MSPs for system upgrades, maintenance, and incident resolution.
On-Site User Support:
Provide limited hands-on technical support for employees, setting up conference room technology, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues as needed to assist helpdesk or provide a faster solution.
Assist with onboarding new users.
Train staff on IT systems and best practices to enhance productivity and security.
Additional Duties:
Ensure compliance with data security regulations and maintain robust cybersecurity protocols.
Manage IT budgets, optimizing costs while ensuring reliable service delivery.
Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, processes, and vendor agreements.
Lead IT-related projects, such as system migrations or software rollouts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Strong technical knowledge in areas such as computer systems, data processing, programming, and information technology, typically acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field — or through equivalent professional experience.
Approximately three to five years of progressively responsible work experience as network administrator or as hardware or software project manager in a position involving supervision of subordinates, project coordination, management interface, and working with outside vendors.
Technical skills and ability necessary to operate, support, and manage a data processing operation, including knowledge of hardware, operating systems, spreadsheets, word processors, and communication packages currently in use.
Interpersonal skills necessary to supervise staff, facilitate individual and group meetings to define software requirements, and train staff on system operations with ordinary courtesy and tact.
Interpersonal and communication skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff by telephone, e-mail, or written correspondence and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
Ability to recognize and solve business problems, including data entry errors, hardware failures, policy adherence problems, data collection errors, and to analyze work-flow and system requirements in order to help formulate procedures and policies.
Ability to transport, install, and maintain electronic data processing equipment such as computers, laser printers, modems, and wiring panels, including component (circuit board, disk drive, power supply) installation. This requires occasional transportation of devices in excess of 70 lbs, and lying, stooping and bending in order to fully install various pieces of equipment.
Work may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. During equipment repair and installation, exposure to relatively high amounts of noise, dust and temperature for short periods of time is likely.
