Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP is a midsize Chicago Loop law firm in search of an Applications Engineer for their IT Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build, maintain, and deploy desktop and laptop images, security updates, application upgrades, and new software across physical and virtual desktop environments.
Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to support software deployment, updates, and overall desktop management.
Install, support, and maintain desktop applications, including Microsoft Office, integrated add-ins, and other Firm software.
Manage desktop-related Active Directory Group Policies, software licensing audits, and virtual desktop pools.
Partner with IT team members to support and enhance front-end applications and help plan and deploy new technologies.
Provide advanced technical support, resolve escalated issues, work with vendors as needed, and support users through training and documentation.
Contribute to special projects and recommend improvements that strengthen workflows and system use across the Firm.
Provide on-call and after-hours support as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience, with at least two years of Microsoft Windows desktop administration experience.
Three or more years of technical support experience in a professional services environment; law firm experience is preferred.
Experience with SCCM or a comparable endpoint management platform, along with working knowledge of Azure AD and Intune.
Experience with scripting or automation using .NET, VBA, and/or PowerShell.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, third-party add-ins, desktop application integration, and Group Policy management.
Experience with virtual desktop environments, basic networking concepts, and desktop support in a managed enterprise environment.
Familiarity with legal desktop applications and document management or automation tools such as iManage and Litera Create is preferred.
Experience with generative AI tools such as Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT, including agent creation and MCP server work, is preferred.
Strong communication, documentation, and user support skills, including the ability to provide one-on-one training and assist end users by phone.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
Available 35 hours per week, variable (M-F).

COMPENSATION:
The expected salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual pay will be based on experience, education, job-related knowledge, market indicators and internal pay equity.
